DES National Awareness - 2021

A Presidential Proclamation, Massive Industry Coverup, A Human Tragedy

National DES Awareness Week

For Immediate Release:

On April 25, 1985, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5327 designating National DES Awareness Week.

Since then, little has been done to bring awareness to the American people of their potential exposure, which includes cancers and DNA/Genetic mutations.

**It is an urgent public health issue.**

*More than 10 million Americans, and millions more globally, were initially exposed to Diethylstilbestrol, a potent synthetic estrogen, which is also a known carcinogen, teratogen and endocrine disruptor, between 1938 -1971. Now, there are millions more third generation or DES grandchildren. DES has been proven to cause multiple cancers, organ defects and malformations, infertility issues, various diseases which include but are not limited to diabetes, cardiac, pancreatic and autoimmune, and transgender/intersex issues. (J Dev Orig Health Dis 2020 Oct 28:1-8)

*This is not a political issue, it is a human issue.

*It is a current issue, as DES is transplacental and is now causing medical issues in the third generation, or DES grandchildren, with even the fourth generation studies beginning. They are exhibiting medical issues similar to the DES children.

*DES exposed people must be followed by doctors the rest of their lives as serious and life threatening medical conditions continue to develop due to the genetic mutations caused in-utero.

*CCA (clear cell adenocarcinoma) has been reported in DES grandchildren as young as eight years old, and DES daughters as old as their late sixties, sometime referred to as a second wave. (https://gynoncrp.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40661-015-0010-5)

*As more and more studies prove the devastating harm caused by their product, the pharmaceutical companies continue to spend millions of dollars to lobby for industry favorable laws and statutes of limitations which deny DES exposed people most options for legal recourse.

*The pharmaceutical companies continue to perpetuate a coverup on a global scale, denying harm and responsibility.

*Medical schools do not teach their students about DES and it’s catastrophic results in the human body.

*To this day, special PPE must be used when handling DES in any form.

*In 2011, Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown requested an apology from the FDA, who refused, but acknowledged DES as a “tragedy”.

*Not one pharmaceutical company has ever apologized.

*The medical and emotional effects of DES exposure remain ongoing, throughout all four generations, more medical and financial help is needed. Here are two examples of previous Federal bills introduced on behalf of the DES exposed population, but funding has expired and more current research is desperately needed:

**DES Coalition is a fledgling organization founded by four people who have been impacted by DES their entire lives.**

*Our goal is to reach out to elected and community officials, and work to abolish statutes of limitations, health insurance denials, push for meaningful federal and state legislation to seek healthcare for those suffering, paid for by funds from pharmaceutical companies, and fight for the right to sue and receive compensation for DES injuries.

*The DES exposed population are mothers, daughters, sons, grandchildren, and transgender/intersex people. More than half a million DES exposed people are transgender.

*Many DES mothers were unaware of their exposure because they had no pregnancy issues….but DES was in their prenatal vitamins.

**Please help us shine a light on this American and human disaster.**
